Therapy for Athletes & Performers: Your Mental Health Matters Too

Therapy for Athletes & Performers

As an athlete or performer, your mental health is just as important as your physical performance. Whether you're in the heat of competition or transitioning to life after sports or performance, the pressure can be immense. The mental pressure of performance, competition, and life after your sport can be overwhelming

Whether you're struggling with performance anxiety, disordered eating, or the stress of transitioning out of your sport, I’m here to guide you through it all.

I understand how consuming body image issues, emotional eating, and eating disorders can be, and I'm here to offer support, guidance, and hope. You don’t have to navigate this alone—I’ve been there, and together, we can work towards a healthier, more accepting relationship with yourself and food.

My Clinical Expertise:

With a Bachelor's in Exercise Science and as a specialized Sports Counselor, I bring both professional expertise and personal experience to my practice. I am also a retired contemporary dancer who spent years performing at a high level, and as a former high school athlete, having faced these challenges myself, I know firsthand how consuming body image issues and disordered eating can be. But with the right support, healing is possible. You don’t have to go through this alone. But with the right support, healing is possible. You don’t have to go through this alone.

The end of a career, whether by choice or due to an unexpected injury, can feel like a loss. The grieving process is real, and the uncertainty of what comes next can leave you questioning your identity and purpose. You may struggle to accept your body’s changes, adjust your diet and routine, and find new passions. Nothing quite equates to the intensity of your sport or performance once you leave, but my goal is to help you navigate this transition and rebuild your identity in a healthy, fulfilling way. I’ve worked with many dancers and Division I athletes at all stages of life, and I’m here to help you through your own journey.

Mindfulness & Meditation

Increase your focus and mental clarity through mindfulness and meditation techniques tailored for high-pressure environments. Develop the skills to stay grounded and focused, even under the most intense pressure, so you can perform at your best and feel your best

Disordered Eating & Body Image

Athletes and performers often face pressure to maintain a certain body image, which can lead to unhealthy relationships with food. I provide compassionate support for overcoming disordered eating and developing a balanced, healthy lifestyle. I've worked with many dancers and athletes who have faced these struggles and come out stronger on the other side.

Trauma Therapy

Injuries, abuse, or traumatic experiences during your career can have a lasting impact. Whether dealing with past injuries or emotional trauma, I offer trauma-informed therapy to help you process the pain and build resilience for the future.

How I help Athletes in Colorado!

Performance Anxiety

Nervousness, stage fright, or the pressure to perform at your best can be overwhelming. I offer practical tools and strategies to manage anxiety so you can perform with confidence.

Life After Sport

For many athletes and performers, identity is closely tied to their sport or craft. I help you navigate the emotional and physical transition, explore your sense of self beyond performance, and find purpose in your next chapter. Accepting your body's changes, shifting routines, and re-imagining your future can be difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Mental Toughness & Resilience Skills

Overcoming setbacks, injuries, and the emotional highs and lows of competition requires mental resilience. I guide you in building the skills needed to stay focused, motivated, and grounded, whether you’re preparing for a big event or recovering from an unexpected change.

My Therapy Approach

Every athlete and performer has a unique journey, and I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet your specific needs. I incorporate a range of evidence-based techniques to help you manage performance anxiety, trauma, transitions, and more. Below are some of the key approaches I use in our work together:

  1. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills: Manage intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and build effective ways to cope with stress. These skills are especially useful for athletes and performers facing high-stakes situations.

  2. Mindfulness-Based Techniques: Stay grounded and present under pressure through mindfulness practices that can improve both your performance and overall well-being.

  3. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Learn to accept difficult emotions and align your actions with your core values, no matter what life throws at you.

  4. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety: Recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to performance anxiety and general worry.

  5. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for Trauma: Process and reframe negative beliefs surrounding trauma to reduce its emotional impact.

  6. Attachment-Based Therapy: Explore how early relationships impact current challenges and develop healthier, more secure connections.

  7. Somatic Experiencing for Trauma and Anxiety: Tune into your body’s physical sensations and release stored tension to heal from trauma and reduce anxiety.
